You are Shantae, the Half-Genie Hero! The nefarious pirate Risky Boots has devised a diabolical plan to conquer Sequin Land, and you alone can save the day!

Half-Genie Hero has 3 save slots. Select one to get started! The first time you play, only “Shantae” mode is available. Beat the game to unlock an additional mode! Look for future DLC to add new characters, too!

Shantae can run, jump, crawl, swim, and dance. Her primary attack is her magical Hair-Whip Attack, but she can also use Magical Relics, or Belly Dance to TRANSFORM! To dance, press the Button. While dancing, press the direction of the desired form to change shape! To change back, press the Button again.

When traveling between key locations throughout the adventure, the game will offer opportunities to SAVE. You can also manually by talking to the OLD MAN in Scuttle Town.

IMPORTANT: This game does not force an auto-save.

Falling into a pit, stepping on spikes, or being touched by an attack will cause Shantae to lose health from her HEART METER. When she runs out of HEARTS, the game is over! Find small hearts, or use items from the SUBSCREEN to replenish lost health.

At the ITEM SHOP, Shantae can purchase RELICS to gain extra abilities, some of which cost MAGIC. Toggle these abilities ON or OFF via the SUBSCREEN. Some “Magic-based” relics (such as FIREBALL) can be swapped between freely during play.

Here you can see all of your belongings, and read a brief description about each.

INVENTORY: these handy items (such as Oranges) can be USED instantly. Just select one and press the button!
DANCES: See the dances you’ve collected, and review how to use them.
RELICS: Toggle RELICS on or off.
KEY ITEMS: These are items related to quests. Select a Key Item to read more about it.

If you get lost, talk to the citizens of Scuttle Town! The BATH LADY has a special knack for hints, so talk to her often! Be sure to revisit old areas and try out your newest abilities – you may find a new power to help you find your way!
