Directional passing in NBA LIVE 14 now gives you even more control over how far you throw the ball to a teammate. Tap to pass to a close receiver, or hold to skip the close receiver and pass the ball to a teammate farther away on the court.
More than 40 NBA players in NBA LIVE 14 have signature dribble moves that add style to their attacks across the court. When the ball is in their hands, hold and flick , , , or to perform these dribble moves. Depending on the player, the speed and length of the dribble will vary.
Take control of the court as a team and pave the way for clean passes and shots with the pick and roll. Hold to begin setting a screen for a teammate, and then release as you’re setting the screen to roll. If you release before setting the screen, the player will slip. If you release after setting the screen, he’ll pop for a jump shot instead.
Use the D-pad for play calling. Press for an iso, for a screen, for a post, or for a cut. Your teammates will move around the ball carrier—or step away from the carrier for isolation.
You can also double-tap , , , or to perform Player Actions. This brings up icons above the heads of your teammates; press the button on your Xbox One Wireless Controller corresponding to the player you want to perform the Player Action.
For team play calling, press and hold and simultaneously press , , or . This will give you five iso plays, five screen plays, and five post plays for each team. If you press while holding , you can see substitutions and coaching options.
Move to play defensively and slide your player up, down, left, or right. To attempt to steal the ball, close in on the ball carrier and flick in his direction. Hold toward an offensive player to contest.
If you’d rather retreat, flick away from the offensive player. You can also hold away from the offensive player to try to draw a charge.
Press the Menu button during a game to access Instant Replay, Call Timeout, Substitutions, Team Roster, Playbooks, Defensive Strategies, Defensive Matchups, Player Stats, Team Stats, Shot Display, Top Relays, Select Side, Settings, Controls, and Restart (LIVE Season only).

Career Accomplishments allow you to review your Accomplishments, including stat titles, performance bonuses, awards, and championships. Check out your progress in individual Stat Rewards and view your current grades for offense, defense, and team play.

Championships are decided on the floor, but it’s your job in the front office to make sure the team has all of the essential pieces to the championship puzzle. This is where you’ll stay on top of salaries and cap management, set up trades, or place players on the Trade Block to see what kinds of offers may turn up in return. You can also sign free agents, view upcoming free agents to plan your off-season strategy, or release players who did not make the cut.
The GM’s Desk is where you make the critical decisions that will ensure your franchise has the right players representing you on the hardwood each night.
Before your team can hit the ground running, they need a game plan. Break down your team’s strengths and weaknesses in Team Roster, and then dole out playing time through your Player Rotation. Study your Playbook or adjust your Defensive Strategies to get ready for your next opponent. My Franchise lets you see the big picture as you develop your own NBA franchise. This includes players, coaches, logos, jerseys, arenas, and contracts.
As you gain new packs, you will have an abundance of items for your team. To scroll through multiple pages of items, move and . You can also mark all items by pressing . This marks all of your items across all pages—not just the page you’re currently viewing—to make clearing out your inventory quick and easy.
Move and to scroll through players on your Ultimate Team and see their items. You can then scroll through each player’s items and bring up detailed information about them by moving and . Press to see all the information at once on the Player Details page.

Choose home and away jerseys for your team. Feel free to get creative—the two types of jerseys don’t have to match your Ultimate Team logo or each other!

To get out on the court, players must have available Contracts. Contracts are available in packs. Each Contract can only be applied to a single player, at which point it is consumed. Every time a player in the Active Lineup enters a game, he spends a Contract, leaving him with one fewer than before.
To apply a Contract to a player, simply highlight the player and press to bring up the Actions menu. Select APPLY CONTRACT and choose the Contract you would like to apply to that player.
Select EDIT FRANCHISE to edit your team name, logo, coach, jersey, or arena. If you want a fresh start, you can also delete your team. This will delete everything associated with your team, including your coin reward balance. These cannot be recovered. All that will remain are your NBA Points.
View your players and set them up for action on the court. Compare players, swap player positions, search your franchise for replacement players, sell items for coins, and customize everything from your jerseys to your coaches.
Make sure your players are in the best positions on the court to encourage smart plays and teamwork. To swap player positions, highlight a player and press , and then highlight a second player. This brings up a comparison of their stats in the lower left corner of the screen. Press while highlighting the second player to swap his position with the first player’s.
If your team is underperforming, you can change your Active Lineup to bring in players with different attributes. Highlight a player and press to access the Actions menu. Here, select SWAP WITH FRANCHISE to remove the currently selected player from the lineup and search your franchise for a replacement player.
If you’d prefer to leave the player’s slot empty for now, select SEND TO FRANCHISE to remove the player without immediately replacing him. You will need to replace the player before entering another game.

You can customize your team further by swapping out your coach, logo, jerseys, or arena. Pull while viewing the Active Lineup screen to get started.
Packs contain players and other valuable items for your team. Each pack has a set composition, but the exact items are random. For instance: you may know that a pack contains three rare items, but you won’t know which rare items until you open the pack. Some packs are more likely to contain certain types of players, so purchase gold packs for a better shot at obtaining a gold player, etc.
You can purchase packs with coins you’ve earned in-game or NBA Points purchased with real-world currency. You also earn packs as you level up, by completing Fantasy Showdowns in Ultimate Team, and by increasing your EA SPORTS™ HoopsNet level.
If you like the items in a pack, you can place them in your franchise. The exception is if you obtain a duplicate player who is already in your franchise; you must deal one of them out for another player. You are also free to discard any unwanted items for coins.
Play a series of challenging games to earn extra coins and packs as rewards. You’ll be pitted against opponents with skills in specific areas.
Some Fantasy Showdowns have special entry requirements you must meet in order to participate. Fantasy Showdowns exhibiting red expiration dog ears are available for a limited time only and usually offer extra coin and pack rewards.
LIVE Season is a living gameplay experience that is as dynamic as the NBA. This game mode uses Synergy Sports Technology to bring you new playable content throughout the NBA season. Play through games just hours after they end, complete BIG Moments to relive what really happened on the hardwood, and test your skills in brand new challenges based on the latest real-world scores and stats.
Play as your favorite team in a full 82-game NBA season! Step into the shoes of NBA players by completing Challenge Objectives such as making the game-winning shot or scoring a certain number of points as a specific player. Challenges are based on real NBA game results and statistics, so you’ll always have new gameplay experiences to look forward to.
Replay the NBA’s biggest moments just hours after the real games have ended. Some challenges are individual player objectives, while others are objectives for the entire team to complete. They’re shorter than a full game, ranging from one minute to two quarters.

Online play through your Xbox Live account lets you challenge friends and other NBA LIVE 14 players to see who has the best moves on the court. When you’re not playing with or against friends, you can see updates as they complete challenges. Stay on top by beating their scores!
Play through a season as your favorite NBA team in online Head to Head Seasons, and see if you can win the division title by going up against other NBA LIVE 14 players. You’ll be able to keep track of your progress through your League and the leaderboards.
Search for other NBA LIVE 14 players at your level, based on your Head to Head Seasons League. These matches affect your Seasons Stats and allow you to progress through the Head to Head Seasons mode.
Participate in a four-game tournament with a trophy and rewards for the victor. You will be placed in a bracket with other players in your League Tier. To win the tournament, you must win four games in a row—but if you lose a match you can restart and try again for the trophy!
NOTE: Tournament Matches are not always available, and they do not affect your Head to Head Season Stats.
